What You Should Keep in Mind as a Reiki Practitioner

Spread the love

Reiki is one of the most popular ways to make someone feel better. This alternative form of therapy comes from Japan, and it is all about transferring universal energy to a person through hands. Simply put, Reiki is a variation of energy healing—“rei” means universal, while “ki” means energy or life force. Because of its popularity, a lot of people have chosen to become a Reiki practitioner. The way to being a Reiki practitioner can be challenging, but if you are with the right mentor, you will learn easily.

Reiki comes with some training. If you are ready for the next level, you may take Reiki 2 training . But there is one trait or skill that you need to master if you want to become a better Reiki practitioner. You need to be empathetic toward your patient. And with that, there are some things that you should be taking note of.

Make sure that the client knows what you are about to do

You might already have long-time patients who have been coming to you for relaxation and minor healing. However, keep in mind that there will be newbies who will want to give Reiki a try. As a practitioner, you must explain to them the art of this therapy. Before you start the treatment, see to it that the client knows what they are getting into. It is also nice that you ask the clients about their expectations.

Consider integrating music

Reiki is all about relaxation and self-healing. And if you are starting a session, it will be nice to set the mood. The best way to do just that is through music. The music, however, should be peaceful. Avoid music and songs that have a lot of instrumental layers such as alternative rock and heavy metal. Classical and oriental ambient music may do the trick.

Keep the space free from distractions

When you have your own Reiki space or room, you have to make sure that it does not have a lot of distractions. Design it in a way that follows the concept of Zen and Japanese minimalism . Moreover, you are supposed to veer away from incense and fragrance oils. These scents may cause distraction. If you can’t help using them, go for the ones that have faint and gentle scents.

Know your limitations

Seeing your clients feel good after the session may give you a sense of pride. They may even commend you for being like a doctor. But do not let this praise get into your head. Know your limitations. You are not a doctor, so do not attempt to give prescriptions or medical advice.

Being a Reiki practitioner allows you to help your family, friends, and patients to improve their quality of life. But if you want to become a better Reiki practitioner, you should be willing to improve your skill. You have to add more layers to your aptitude. More importantly, you need to learn the art of empathy. Things can be challenging at first, but you have to trust your mentor and, more especially, yourself.
